Call for Papers: Aging and Health

Conference on Aging and Health, June 8-10, 2022 – Munich, Germany

Falling birth rates and rising survival rates at older ages are contributing to an aging of populations in developed nations.  While the details differ across countries, the economic challenges of adapting to an older population, and addressing the health and related needs of such a population, are ubiquitous. To promote research on these issues, the Munich Center for the Economics of Aging (MEA) at the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy and the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) will host a conference on June 8-10, 2022, in Munich, Germany.  The meeting will be organized by Axel Börsch-Supan (MEA and NBER), Fabrizio Mazzonna (Università della Svizzera Italiana), and Jonathan Skinner (Dartmouth and NBER).

The conference will address a broad range of issues related to aging and health, including but not limited to:

  •   measurement and determinants of health at older ages;
  •   physical and cognitive functioning and their association with labor market and broader socioeconomic status;
  •   the prevalence of work disability and the role of public and private insurance programs in affecting disability rates;
  •   retirement choices such as savings and labor supply;
  •   longevity and well-being;
  •   the demand for and provision of long-term care.

The organizers welcome submissions of both empirical and theoretical research on these topics and others, including papers by scholars who are early in their careers, who are not NBER affiliates, and who are from under-represented groups.

To be considered for inclusion on the program, papers must be uploaded by 11:59 pm EST on February 28, 2022 via the following link: http://conference.nber.org/confsubmit/backend/cfp?id=AGHs22

Please do not submit papers that have been accepted for publication and that will be published by June, 2022.

Authors of papers that will be included on the program will be notified by late March 2022.  The cost of local accommodations and economy-class advance-purchase airfare for one author per paper will be reimbursed by the conference sponsors.  All co-authors will be invited to attend the meeting.
