The COVID-19 pandemic is one of the largest threats in recent decades. It is an important challenge for policy makers to prevent infections while minimizing the economic losses. Policy measures to prevent the spread of Corona (for instance, social distancing, stay-at-home or work-at-home orders) involve all sort of costs from loneliness to lost earnings. The availability of an effective vaccine enables us to manage the transition to a post-pandemic economy. In this project, we analyze different vaccination schemes and its interplay with other types of policy measures to fight the spread of the virus. We use a multi-group SEIR model to derive optimal vaccination strategies and achieve potential efficiency gains. The model is calibrated for Germany.
