Die Fellow-Gruppe des Max-Planck-Instituts für Sozialrecht und Sozialpolitik hat gemeinsam mit der Abteilung Sozialrecht die Tagung „Wem ‚gehört‘ die Teilhabe? Nutzen, Bereitstellung und Verfügbarkeit von Teilhabe als Allgemeingut“ am 6. bis 7. Dezember 2018 veranstaltet. Dabei wurde Teilhabe aus verschiedenen fachlichen Perspektiven betrachtet. Die Referentinnen und Referenten sprachen unter anderem über die Bedeutung von Teilhabe aus verfassungsrechtlicher Sicht, die sozialethische Entdeckung der Teilhabe, die Teilhabe am gesellschaftlichen Leben, den Ausgleich durch Teilhabe bzw. die Teilhabe durch Ausgleich sowie die Chancen und Grenzen der politischen Teilhabe und über das neue Bundesteilhabegesetz. Das Ziel der Tagung war einen multidisziplinären Blick auf den populären Teilhabebegriff zu werfen, um auf der Basis dieser Analyse „Teilhabe“ als Vision und als Agent besser zu verstehen und eventuell auch messbar und bewertbar zu machen. Ein Blick in die Zukunft, was nach der Teilhabe kommen wird, wurde ebenso gewagt.Im Jahr 2019 wird ein Tagungsband veröffentlicht werden.

Dr. Stefan Stegner, a former staff member of the Institute, was awarded the Munich University Society's Doctoral Award 2018 for his thesis. Under the supervision of Prof. Ulrich Becker, Director at the MPI for Social Law and Social Policy, Stegner analyzed the transformation of German-Polish social security relations in the period from the First World War to the end of the Second World War. He combined historical archive work with social law dogmatics and political science theory. His work, entitled "Zwischen Souveränität und Ökonomie", was recently published by Nomos.

Visitors to the Munich Science Days (Münchner Wissenschaftstage) from 10 to 13 November 2018 can find out more about the research of the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy. The Institute will be participating with an interactive booth in the Science Days, which this year will focus on "Workplaces - Ideas for a Better Future". During these four days, interested visitors will have the opportunity to put their knowledge to the test in a quiz and try out tests from a scientific study on themselves from 10 am to 7 pm in the "Alte Kongresshalle". Prof. Ulrich Becker, Director at the Institute, will also give a lecture on 13 November at 2:30 pm on the topic "Chancen und Risiken von Erwerbsmigration: Was bringt ein Einwanderungsgesetz?". Federal Minister Anja Karliczek and the Bavarian Minister of State for Science and the Arts, Prof. Dr. Marion Kiechle, visited the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Social Law and Social Policy in Munich to find out about SHARE, a Europe-wide research project investigating the effects of demographic change. In this context, the Research Minister discussed with Prof. Axel Börsch-Supan, one of the two directors of the Institute, the topics of old-age provision, insurances and the future of ageing and work, which are the subject of research at the MPI. Prof. Dr. Dr. Dr. h.c. Bernd Baron von Maydell passed away after an eventful, fulfilled and highly successful academic life. In 1992 he was appointed Scientific Member of the Max Planck Society and Director of the Institute for Social Law and Social Policy, then known as the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Social Law, which he managed until his retirement in 2002. Bernd von Maydell remained connected to the Institute for many years afterwards through an intensive scientific and personal exchange. During his career he has not only helped to shape German, European and international social law, but has also made his knowledge available to governments and national and international organisations. Maydell's manifold activities were also supported by the concern to contribute to socio-political progress through social law.
