Helmut Farbmacher receives Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society

Dr. Helmut Farbmacher has been conferred the award for his dissertation entitled "Financial Incentives and Behavior – Four Essays in Applied Health and Labor Economics". In his dissertation Helmut Farbmacher investigated, among other things, the causal effect of the so-called German practice fee by using, for instance, detailed claims data.

The introduction of the practice fee triggered economically relevant changes in the consultation behavior of the insured. As a result, especially the younger and healthier insured persons sought medical advice far less often. The Otto Hahn Medal of the Max Planck Society is awarded to outstanding junior scholars. The award ceremony will take place at the annual General Meeting of the Max Planck Society on June 4, 2014, in Munich.
