"Social Systems and Diversity: Research Fields and Research Methods in Interdisciplinary Comparison"

This year's summer workshop of the Max Planck Fellow Group "Dis[cover]ability & Indicators for Inclusion" and the Chair of Sociology of Diversity at TUM took place from September 19 to 21, 2019 in cooperation with the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, Campus Brixen. Together with scientists from the Faculty of Education, in particular Prof. Susanne Elsen and team, the members of the Fellow Group discussed aspects of the topic "Social Systems and Diversity: Research Fields and Research Methods in Interdisciplinary Comparison". The joint workshop serves as a first step towards deeper scientific exchange and future cooperation in research and teaching.

"Health in Diversity, Diversity in Health?"

2nd South-East-African and European Conference on Refugees and Forced Migrants

From 12 to 14 March 2019, the second South-East-African & European Conference on Refugees and Forced Migrants successfully took place in Kilifi, Kenya. The conference was organized by the Fellow-Group in collaboration with the Department of Foreign and International Social Law headed by Director Prof. Dr. Ulrich Becker and Pwani University. Following up on the discussions and results of the first conference (“Social Rights - Care - Mutual Benefits?”), the focus topic of this event was “Health in Diversity, Diversity in Health?”. Several African as well as European scientists presented their work and thoughts on historical, legal, political and economic perspectives of health among refugees and forced migrants. Further thematic aspects included quality of life, diversity and the specific situation of people in refugee camps. At the end of this year, an edited volume of the conference proceedings will be published by Springer, following the first anthology from February 2019, which can be accessed via SpringerLink.

"Diversity in Science: Foundations, Research and Implementation"

The Fellow Group of the Max Planck Institute for Social Law and Social Policy, together with the Chairs of Sociology of Diversity at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and at the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck, organized a workshop on "Diversity in Science: Foundations, Research and Implementation". Diversity aspects from different scientific perspectives and disciplines (including law, political science, philosophy, sociology, psychology, educational science and anthropology) were examined and existing and planned research projects as well as main topics were discussed.
